Why isn’t WebCatalog free?

Updated over a week ago

WebCatalog started as a side project—something we built out of curiosity and a desire to make web apps easier to use and manage. Over time, it grew into a product used by millions of people around the world. That growth is incredible, but it also comes with real costs.

Running and maintaining WebCatalog isn’t cheap. We have to pay for servers, bandwidth, development tools, and support systems. More importantly, we’re a small team of humans—no big corporation behind us—just people with families, bills to pay, and a genuine commitment to building great software.

We’ve chosen to keep WebCatalog 100% bootstrapped. That means we don’t take venture capital, we don’t serve ads, and we definitely don’t sell your data or track your activity to squeeze out a few extra dollars. Instead, we rely on support from users like you to keep the lights on and the product growing.

Could we make it free? Maybe—if we raised funding, added ads, or built a business model around data. But we don’t want to go down that path. We’d rather stay independent and build something we’re proud of, without compromising your privacy or our values.

We’ve worked hard to keep pricing fair and accessible, especially for users in different parts of the world. But if the price ever feels out of reach or if you have feedback, we’re always open to a conversation. Let us know—we’ll do our best to help.
